MRIS Announces Industry Expert Joins Board of Directors
Terrence M. McDermott Joins Leadership In Support of Growing Mission
Rockville, MD – September 19, 2011 – David Howell, Chairman of the MRIS Board of Directors, announced today that Terrence M. (Terry) McDermott has joined the board effective immediately. Rockville, MD- based MRIS facilitates over $300 million in real estate listings and sales each day.
As a board member, McDermott brings valuable experience gained during his executive tenures at the National Association of REALTORS®(NAR), The American Institute of Architects and Cahners Publishing Company.
“McDermott is uniquely qualified to sit on the MRIS Board of Directors,” explains Howell. “He led initiatives to make huge inroads with the brokerage community and worked tirelessly at the legislative level to be certain that consumers would benefit from the best real estate experience possible.”
David Charron, CEO of MRIS, adds, “Terry engenders such enormous respect in both the real estate and legislative arenas. He brings great depth and experience and his perspective will be of great value to us. My team and I are thrilled to have Terry join the board”.
During his tenure at NAR, membership grew by more than 490,000 to 1.2 million, and the housing market experienced the largest sustained boom in U.S. history. McDermott oversaw development and construction of the $46 million Washington, D.C., office building, and helped NAR achieve substantial legislative victories.
“Terry is a first-rate professional and a thought leader with excellent working knowledge of the real estate business,” stated Tom Quattlebaum, CEO of the Anne Arundel County Association of REALTORS®, and an MRIS shareholder. “We’re very fortunate to have an executive of his caliber join the board and we’re all looking forward to benefitting from his wisdom and perspective.”
McDermott and his fellow board members will guide MRIS during a time when the real estate industry faces unprecedented challenges. “I believe that MRIS represents the future of the real estate business as it pertains to how an MLS supports real estate professionals,” says McDermott. “I’m looking forward to bringing both a historical perspective and vision of the future for this industry and this company. The MRIS board is an outstanding group of real estate professionals, and I am honored to be included.”
He has also served as vice chairman of the board of the National Building Museum, as the past chairman of the board of the American Architectural Foundation and previously sat on the boards of the Audit Bureau of Circulation, The Construction Products Manufacturers Council and The Little Brothers of the Poor.
