The realm of copyright law is a delicate balance between protecting the rights of brokers and fostering the dissemination of aggregated listings.
The Broker Public Portal (BPP), the most successful collaborative real estate industry initiative designed to help consumers research properties and connect with the listing firm, is seeking a Chief Executive Officer. The CEO will be responsible for driving the launch and growth of the company’s consumer facing website, mobile application, and suite of collaboration tools and integrations.
The real problem solved by free software in real estate is product adoption and overlapping distribution. When you know the products being used by every agent regardless of source – Association, MLS, Franchise, Broker, self-paid, etc. – then you can visualize the roadmap for free vs. premium.
Five MLSs with a combined subscriber count of over 100,000 announced that they have pooled their resources and purchased a real estate technology company called Agent Inbox. As a result of the acquisition, these five MLSs will now have a solution that fits their mutual needs for a messaging-and-showing solution to serve their subscribers. Moreover, these five will be able to make their showing and messaging solutions available to other MLSs as a vendor.

There is little doubt about the value that an MLS provides to brokers though the IDX and VOW services it offers. The ability for a broker or agent to have a full feed of MLS data to deliver a property search solution to their buyers is vital, and part of the centerpiece of cooperation between brokers that is foundational to MLS. IDX is a good thing.
